Watch: Tampa Bay get some love in Tennis’ new video for “Take Me Somewhere”

There was some of talk about sailing when I exchanged emails with Tennis’ Patrick Riley back in March, and while the entire blogosphere makes a big deal about the band’s seafaring origins, Riley – along with bandmate (and wife) Alaina Moore – have put the bay area on the map once again.

The couple bought their vessel at the St. Petersburg municipal marina (“There are a lot of great people over there,” said Riley), and while they spent some time refurbishing the boat over there, they didn’t want to jinx themselves and re-christen it.  “We aren’t superstitious people,” he told me, “but it’s bad luck to rename a boat, so we kept the original name; Swift Ranger.”

It’s that name and the words “Tampa Florida” that get some screen time in the duo’s new video for “Take Me Somewhere” from their breakout debut LP, Cape Dory.  Directed by Ian Perlman and shot through the lens of a 16mm Bolex camera, the two-and-a-half minute clip shows Riley and Moore gliding across some very familiar waters and makes us want to start playing the Powerball in the hopes of buying a sailboat of our own.

THX MGMT most recently brought Tennis to Ybor as a part of a bill that featured Dum Dum Girls, Dirty Beaches and La Sera, and pictures from that show are available here.  Check out the video for “Take Me Somewhere” below.  Hat tip to Picthfork and our boy Mike Hugus for turning us on to the video.
