Well, thank you Jeebus. We’ve made it through the terrible twos. To celebrate, we’re having another party at our favorite watering hole — New World Brewery. Just like last year, it’s gonna be free, and just like last year there are going to be a handful of our favorite Florida bands.
On hand to provide a sensual sonic massage to attendees’ ear canals will be St. Petersburg-based instrumental powerhouses Set And Setting, seminal Orlando-based punk-pop outfit You Blew It!, Bradenton’s alt-folk/country gift to the world Have Gun Will Travel, and legendary Tampa-based hardcore outfit INJ/SYS (pronounced “Injustice System”) who will be playing a reunion set.
The event also marks the release of the SubAp!’s second photo book, which utilizes the work of the site’s photography team to document the past year of “#tampamusic” onto brilliant full-page spreads. Kimberly Yau Studios will also be on hand running a photo booth for attendees to get goofy in.
The show is 21 & up and kicks off at 9 p.m. at New World Brewery (1313 E. 8th Ave, Ybor City, Fla.). More information is available at our calendar page. Get learned on the bands below. RSVP for the event on Facebook.
HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL (Bradenton, Fla.)
Since their inception just six years ago, Bradenton’s Have Gun, Will Travel have enjoyed a steady rise in popularity that has landed them TV spots, features on NPR, and a spot on Denver-based Suburban Home Records’ storied roster. More importantly, the band has cultivated a loyal following thanks to an earnest and fresh take on the time-honored tradition of American roots music. Have a listen to “Salad Days” from their 2012 LP Postcards From The Friendly City below.
YOU BLEW IT! (Orlando, Fla.)
You Blew It! (YBI!) love tacos. If tacos could talk, then they’d probably tell you that they love YBI! too, and if that isn’t reason enough for you to commit your allegiance, then consider the fast track that the Orlando-based emo outfit has been on since their inception just three years ago. They’ve released a pair of EPs (a self-titled in 2009 and The Past In Present in 2011), played a few shows with The Get Up Kids, and signed to Boston’s Topshelf Records to release one of the best LPs of 2012 — Grow Up, Dude. Have a listen to “Terry V. Tori” from Dude below.
SET AND SETTING (St. Pete, Fla.)
By the time Set And Setting return to the Bay area for our 2-year anniversary show, the St. Petersburg-based instrumental quartet will have just completed a 12-date east coast tour that took them to locales like Athens, Ga., New York City, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Savannah amongst others. The band has a new record in the works and we can’t wait to dim the lights and have them blow the doors off of New World in a few weeks. Have a listen to a two-track tour EP from their 2012 jaunt below.
INJ/SYS (Tampa, Fla.)
Sometimes people just miss each other and we could not be more thrilled to host a reunion of one of the Bay area’s most beloved punk outfits INJ/SYS (Injustice System) who (by our count) haven’t played together since the summer of 2011. It’s fast, loud, 80’s inspired hardcore. Have a look at some video from aforementioned May 2011 performance below.
