IN PASSING: SubAp!’s Top 6 Instragram Accounts to follow

In anticipation of one of the coolest art shows to come along in a while (more on that below), SubAp! has put our procrastination to use and come up with six Instragram accounts for you to follow.  They’re mostly musicians, designers (some our musician/designers), but each one of them makes wasting our lives away on IG feel really good.

SUB AP! CAL: IN PASSING – A COLLECTION OF MOBILE PHONE-OGRAPHY AT CAFE HEY

In all seriousness, there’s something to be said about the way the mobile phone photography has enabled us to capture life as it happens whilst enhancing the (sometimes) mundane and repetitive lives we lead.  We’ve tried to keep this post as simple as possible (as we hope you’re viewing it on your mobile device), so follow all of today’s artists by clicking the hyperlinks below, and check out five of our favorite IG accounts as well.  Your free time (and not so free time) will thank you later.

IN PASSING ARTISTS
LAUREN COLOMBOPALMER COLETONY KROL
MELISA TAYLORNICOLE ABBETJARED FAGER

MUST FOLLOW IG ACCOUNTS

01. ASTRONAUTALIS (@astronautalis)

Astronautalis is certainly an active IG user, and while most over-instragramers are busy posting photos of their latest boba tea or pedicure, Charles Andrew Bothwell is bust sharing shots from his recent European tour or capturing life in America like a boss.  Bonus points for knowing how to fill out a baseball scorecard and cutting his teeth in the Jacksonville hip hop scene.

02. SCOTT HANSEN (@ISO50)

Scott Hansen is a beast of the beats, but the producer also known as Tycho is most definitely one of the best musicians/designers on the Interwebs.  If you like being blown away on your IG feed, then a follow is mandatory.

03. ED MA (@editbeats)

As one-third of L.A.-based electro-wunderkinds The Glitch Mob, Edit — aka Ed Ma — is a fun follow because he posts a whole slew of shots from programming sessions, but he gets extra IG points for posting a mess of inspiring bicycling photos (we almost pried ourselves off the phone to exercise) and tons of cute doggie pics.  Hell, he’s even got a shot of his mom on his motorcycle.

04. DAM-FUNK (@dam_funk)

Thanks to credits on some of 90s hip-hops greatest albums, Damon G. Riddick — aka Dam-Funk — is veritable rap royaly, but who would’ve known that he’d be so damn positive on Instragram.  His feed shows an uncanny eye to go with his obvious sonic gifts and many of his captions read like excerpts from motivational novels.

05. FRANK OCEAN (@francistenenbaum)

While he’s easily the mild-mannered member of the OFWGKTA family (sorry Tyler), Frank Ocean is still a perplexing dude.  Still, he’s got one of the most talked-about (and critically applauded) major-label debuts out right now, and he also posts a nice sample of cute dog pics to go along with self-shots, murdered-out Benzs, and pop-music paper collages.  John Mayer even made the feed.

06. TAYLOR SWIFT (@taylorswift)

Let the hatred begin.  Face it, outside of her music (which is..eh) and her nearly Tebow-like purity (she ain’t totally innocent), Taylor Swift hasn’t really given you any reason to really dislike her.  Besides, she shares nearly all of her life via social media.  Think passed out felines, cupcake bakingsewing, and hanging with the girls.  She’s a pop culture phenomenon, so sue us for tagging along.
