DO IT TODAY: D.P, Big Blue House, Prince Golden at New World Brewery

New World Brewery – 1313 E. 8th Ave. (Ybor City) – $7 – 9 p.m.

Gainesville-based D.P. is one of the busiest rappers in the game, having released six records since his 2007 Running Man mixtape, and while most MCs seem content in never expanding their sonic reach, his latest LP – 2010’s Bar Tab Blues – finds him not just rapping, but singing songs about booze and what it does to a man on songs like “Hollow.”  Also one of the hardest-working artists in the state, his efforts haven’t gone unnoticed landing him opening slots on The Supervillans’ summer tour of the west coast.

Sarasota’s Big Blu House play a concoction of thick, funky bass lines and the liquid delivery of dual vocalists will make for some of the freshest hip-hop to hit this side of the Sunshine Skyway is a while.  Tampa by way of Columbus, Ohio MC Prince Golden – who recently wowed at Summer Jam 7 – rounds out the bill with songs like “Dilla Still Illa” which finds him paying homage to the late producers efforts while assuring everyone that hip hop’s future is still bright indeed.  More information on the show is available here, and the official video for D.P.’s “Simple Dude” is streaming below.
