Bon Iver announces sophomore LP, watch them play “Tampa To Tulsa” at State Theatre

Justin Vernon may be known as Kanye West’s BFF lately (I mean, he and Pusha T were the only guests Yeezy had onstage at Coachella), but the 29-year-old Auto-Tune impresario looks ready to get his band’s name trending once again. Pitchfork revealed yesterday that Vernon’s alt-folk outfit, Bon Iver, has announced June 21 as the release date for its self-titled sophomore release.
The news comes on the heels of a cryptic video posted to the band’s website exactly one week ago, and while Vernon has described the recording process for Bon Iver, Bon Iver (yes, a double self-title) as “really different…a giant discovery,” we still can’t help but be excited about the 11-track effort (which will be released via Jagjaguwar). Recorded and mixed by Vernon and his brother Nate, the album features regular Bon Iver collaborators Sean Carey, Mike Noyce, and Matt McCaughan – who once joined Vernon on an awesome version of The Jayhawks’ “Tampa To Tulsa” at a St. Petersburg show almost two years ago – and cover art from Minnesota-based artist Gregory Euclide, which is pictured above.
A tracklist can be seen below and a video of Vernon and his band mates taking on the Jayhawks is streaming below it.
UPDATE: Melanie from The Rukus’ has been gracious enough to share some pictures from the 2009 show with us. A full gallery is available below the video. Check out her website here.
